The best way to learn how to use Linux is to install a copy and start using it. And you can install it right alongside your Windows system, and switch between them. Our Tutorials will show you how, taking you through step-by-step!

Once you start using Linux, you will find it is as easy or easier to use than Windows. And faster!

What is Linux?

Linux is a Unix-based, open source (that means its free) operating system created by Linus Torvalds. You can find out more about the history and development of Linux here.


Linux comes in many flavors, called distributions or 'distros'. Distros are different configurations of Linux; there are distros designed for businesses, servers, scientific enterprises, and home users.

The distro used for this site is Linux Mint, a stable, user-friendly distro, with an interface similar to Windows.

But, don't I need to know command-line?

With todays' Linux, you don't have to. Linux comes with a GUI (Graphical User Interface) just like Windows and Mac OS. But should you want to, the option to do anything and everything with command-line is there.
